The symbol ‘G>^v’ is one that has gained a lot of traction over the years. You’ve probably seen them on T-shirts, tote bags, and other Christian merchandise, accessories, or even posts. Well, its full meaning is “God is greater than the highs and lows”.

We live in a world where we create good memories and encounter constant obstacles. You could one day be without a care in the world and the next, something comes up to shake your life and pull you into grief.

With all the instability and uncertainty about what we may face in the future, there is one steady thing that we can cling to; God’s superiority to anything we may go through.

This article aims to explain what it means for God to be greater than our highs and lows, to give you that unshakeable and confident approach to living life.

The Origin of ‘God Is Greater Than The Highs And Lows’?

This sentence is not written anywhere in the Bible, but it is a representation of the biblical truth of the sovereignty of God. It is a simple way of reminding ourselves of who God is and the power He has over life and everything that comes with it.

You might also be curious and ask, where did ‘God is greater than the highs and lows’ symbol come from?

The ‘G’ in G>^v means God, the ‘>’ is the mathematical symbol for ‘greater than’ and it represents Greater. The ‘^’ looks like an arrow pointing up and symbolizes the highs and the ‘v’ symbolizes the lows.

This saying together simply means that God is bigger than anything that could come our way, be it success or hardships. The symbol has no origin from the pages of the Bible. It was created as a short version of declaring God’s sovereignty over our situations, and it’s aesthetic makes it suitable for a younger generation.

‘God Is Greater Than The Highs And Lows’ Proof In The Bible

We can see God’s power and greatness playing out in different stories of the bible. Take for example the story of Job.

He was a very wealthy man and eventually hit rock bottom when his wealth and children were taken away from him. However, he did not lose His trust in God. God proved that His ability to make a man prosper exceeded even the affluence Job had before his fall. He did not just restore Job but elevated him to an even higher status with more wealth and more children.

Jesus Himself is an example of God being greater than our highs and lows. He hit his lowest point when He was crucified, died, and went into hell. But God proved His might when He raised Him from the dead, crowned Him and gave Him a name above every other name.

In our highs or moments of prosperity, it’s easy to forget God and the fact that He is the one who elevated us.

The story of King Nebuchadnezzar in Daniel 4:28-37 showcases this as well. God blessed the King and his empire grew to great bounds. So did his wealth. However, he made the mistake of thinking and declaring that he achieved everything by his power alone and glorified himself instead of God.

As a result, God humbled him by making him roam around for seven years eating grass like an ox. After he repented, God in His mercy also restored him and gave him back his kingdom.

In our lows, it is also easy to lose faith in God and His ability to bring us out of dire situations. However, God is with us in our pain and will always give us the strength to persevere and will lift us out of our despair.

Another  example in the Bible is  Joseph. He was jailed unjustly, but God strengthened him in the prison and gave him favor in the eyes of everyone there. Years later, God brought him out to become Prime Minister.

It must not have been easy for Joseph to be in that cell for something he knew he didn’t do, but he trusted God regardless and He showed up in His might for him.

What does this tell us? God is with us through it all.
