Sometimes it’s hard to remember the days when the relationship was easy and fun. Walk between us today. Speak peace into our hearts. Give us an infinite amount of patience when it comes to understanding each other. Draw us back to the days when being together didn’t feel so hard. Father, I cry out in anguish before you. I know that what I am feeling today is nothing in comparison to how you felt as your Son died on the cross. Help me to be patient with others in their suffering, and patient as I wait for you to move in the midst of my own suffering. The pain experienced through this trial feels as if it’s too much to bear. Help me to remember that your burden is easy, and your yoke is light. Help me to believe that your timing is perfect and that all things come together for my good and your glory. Help me to rejoice amidst suffering and find my gladness in you. I know that suffering produces perseverance and sanctifies my soul. Help me to focus on you and what you want me to learn. I want to be faithful, despite my circumstances, to seek you and treasure you in all that I do and say. Amen.

Final Thoughts

Even as we pray these prayers for patience, we must back them up with God’s Word. When we meditate on what God says about being persevering, we begin to see why and how our impatience harms us. This aids us to wait better in situations.

Above all, patience is a fruit of the Holy Spirit. (Gal 5: 22). Without His help, we cannot cultivate this fruit. It will take intentional and deliberate fellowship with Him to let endurance have its perfect work as James 1:4 says. Even cultivating patience requires patience. It’s the little victories each day that eventually builds us up to who we hope to become.
